On 29 June, with the tower crane at the construction site pouring concrete on the top-layer, the main structure of the first phase of the project of Cambridge University - Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation was officially capped.



The transformation of research results is inseparable from the hardware guarantee given by the space carrier. The Central Business District of the Jiangbei New Area have been promoting the construction of the project with high efficiency and high quality. On September 10 last year, the first phase of the project laid the foundation; in February this year, the project overcame the pressure of the epidemic and started construction. On May 13 this year, with the overtime work of the construction team, it took only 80 days to successfully complete building foundation and basement construction in the first phase of the project ; Faced with a series of difficult and complicated conditions such as humid and rainy climate conditions, shortage of mechanical personnel and materials in the specific period, the construction team adopted a number of advanced construction technologies, carefully organized and scientifically dispatched, and implemented various technical measures on safety. It took only 46 days to complete the capping of the above-ground main body construction on June 29.

On the day of the capping, over 50 guests including Ms. Chen Chanmei, member of the Party Working Committee of Nanjing Jiangbei New Area, and deputy director of the Management Committee of Nanjing Jiangbei New Area, Mr. Ding Jianhua, deputy inspector of the Nanjing Science and Technology Bureau, leaders of the relevant functional departments of Jiangbei New Area, all members of the Party Working Committee of the Central Business District of Jiangbei New Area, and leaders of the construction companies, attended the capping ceremony.

At the ceremony, Wang Jianning, deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee and secretary of the Disciplinary Work Committee of the Central Business District of Jiangbei New Area, expressed warm congratulations on the successful capping of the project. At the end of the ceremony, Chen Chanmei announced that the main building of the first phase of the project was officially capped, and then Chen Chanmei, Ding Jianhua and Wang Jianning jointly pressed the start ball to pour concrete on the top-layer the building.



As a long-term base of the Center, the project is located on the southwest side of Guangxi Geng Street, the northwest side of Puba Road, and the southeast side of Zhenzhuhe River. The total construction area is about 120,000 square meters and the main construction content is the scientific research laboratory building, scientific research office building, conference center and catering and other facilities. Among them, the first phase includes key scientific research laboratories, industrialization offices, intellectual property offices, scientific research incubation offices, academic exchange centers, and scientific research service facilities. At the beginning of 2021, the Center will gradually move in. At that time, a series of work such as international high-end original scientific research projects, innovative R&D, achievement transformation, international academic exchanges and talent training will be carried out to promote the latest global technology research and application results to land in China.



The Center is the first research institution established by Cambridge University outside the UK. It is also the only overseas scientific and technological innovation center of Cambridge University to date. Since its establishment, it has always been highly integrated with the local industry orientation. Initially, it focuses on information technology and renewable energy, biomedical and health care, smart cities and environmental protection, zero carbon and sustainable development. At present, the center has introduced two batches of research projects, including “Multi-modality and Hybrid 3-D Ultrasound/Photoacoustic Imaging System”, “Obesity associated metabolic complications: Pathogenic mechanisms, diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets”, "DropBioApp Engineering droplet-based microfluidic platform for biological applications", "Holographic interferometer for 3D surface profiling", and "High power density DC converters of 48V power supply systems used for datacentres ". The successful landing of these projects will have a tremendous impetus for academic innovation, talent concentration and achievement transformation in Jiangbei New Area.
